A School Counselor’s Role

At Craig Elementary, we provide a comprehensive counseling program to support the emotional, social and educational needs of our students. We provide many services for students, families, and staff, such as classroom guidance, small groups, and individual counseling sessions.

Classroom guidance lessons will be scheduled at all grade levels throughout the year on a regular basis, covering a variety of topics including listening skills, study skills, conflict management, personal safety, friendship, and careers.

Small groups are conducted with 2 or more students who share a common struggle in the classroom or at home and meet for six to 8 weeks with each session lasting 30 minutes. Topics may include study skills, improving attendance, building self-esteem, or coping with grief and loss. Parent permission is required to participate in small group counseling.

Any student can request to meet with us or they can be referred by a teacher, administrator, or parent. We encourage you to reach out if you have concerns regarding your child. If you would like for one of us to meet with your child, please do not hesitate to contact us directly.

We are here to help students achieve their personal, social and academic goals, as well as provide support for the parents and teachers. We look forward to a great school year!

Student Groups

Craig Character Awards

Each month we will highlight a different character trait. Students are chosen weekly by staff for demonstrating that character trait and their picture will be on the morning news show all week.

Kids Hope Mentoring

Kids Hope Mentoring is a mentoring program where students are mentored by community members weekly for one hour. Mentoring sessions include 45 minutes of academic focus.

Peer Leaders

Our motto is: "Uplift the school and the community!"

5th grade students apply for spots on the Peer Leader team. Peer Leaders sponsor several "Craig Cares" activities throughout the school year, including United Way and Great Days of Service. We also provide tutoring for kindergarten students. Craig's Peer Leaders attend a yearly Peer Leadership conference.

Please bring containers for food. A $20 donation allows individuals to “shop” for food. If unable to pay $20, patrons can be given a box of food. Early arrival is encouraged.

Emergency Utility Bill Financial Assistance: Once per 12 months, will pay the last $100 of a utility bill. You must bring cash or money order for the portion over $100 with you. Check is made payable directly to the service provider. (For example, if the bill is $156, client brings money order or cash for $56 and Co-Op gives client a check made out directly to Utility Company.)

The Impact! Group

IMPACT! Transitional Housing Program helps families who find themselves in a homeless situation tackle the root causes of becoming homeless and work to achieve economic stability. They also serve as a resource center for supportive services, partnering with other agencies to help clients locate transportation, employment opportunities, and other necessities to help families get back on their feet.

IMPACT! Home Ownership Center provides services including homebuyer/homeowner classes, pre- and post-purchase counseling, and mortgage delinquency/default counseling.
